Waiting For Preloaded Android 2.2 SmartPhones to Come Out

Sony Ericsson Xperia x10 Android smartphoneCurrently most of the Android smartphones out there run Android OS version 1.5 to 2.1. Rogers.ca offers some of the newest Android smartphones like the Sony Xperia X10, HTC Magic, Motorola Quench and LG Eve, however even though they are the latest smartphones that Rogers Canada offers, don’t get me wrong they are great multi-function phones, but those phones are still running Android versions 1.5 to 2.1.

The reason why I will be waiting to buy and Android smartphone is because, Google very recently announced the performance test results for the new Android 2.2 operating system a.k.a Froyo and they are amazing. The results show that Android 2.2 has a huge leap in speed, up to 450% faster and the great part is that Flash videos works really fast too on Android 2.2 according to Google’s test. Don’t know why Apple can’t get Flash to work properly on their iPhones and iPad…it’s sad really when you are paying so much money for an iPhone or iPad and it can’t even play videos from a website.

I choose Android over iPad or Apple iPhone…why? The main reason is features and value. Many people agree that an iPhone is not good value, many of my co-workers in the technology field do not own or want iPhones simply because we do not see the value in it. Consumers spend a lot of money on an iPhone, just for the cool factor, the “I want to feel important” and “look what I have” factor without realizing that they paid minimum 30% more than a value conscious person who bought an Android phone that can do more things as well or better than the iPhone. Another thing is that you are not locked down to getting your music iTunes and you don’t have to pay ridiculous prices for apps. One thing I learned about luxury products, which is what Apple products including iPhone really is, is that you continue paying through your teeth after the purchase, with iPhone you have to pay for apps.

When Android 2.2 is release on production smartphones, I think things are going to really take off for Google Android OS phones. Already, Android phones have outsold Apple iPhones in most recent sales statistics. The new faster smartphones based on Android 2.2 will allow me to pretty much run my business right from the smartphone itself just by using the web browser, and at a much lower initial cost than an iPhone and I can’t wait.
