RIM Takes $480 Million Dollar (USD) Hit on Bad Play with Playbook Tablet

RIM Playbook piece of crap
Back in March of this year, when the specifications for the RIM Playbook came out I knew that this product / tablet from RIM would not take off. The price was too high for the specs and you can only do limited things with the RIM Playbook tablet.

Other tablets at that time could do much more, had more apps and for much less money, RIM had a really big flaw in their strategy. They for some weird egotistical way, RIM thought they could take on the Apple iPad…talk about illusions of grandeur.

At one point over the last few weeks in an act of desperation RIM tried to get rid of the Playbook with a fire sale of $199 CAD at BestBuy.ca and Futureshop.ca, but I don’t think many people took the bait.

Anyway, back in March, April I already saw this coming and recommended to short RIM’s stock with PUT options, and most recently it was announced that RIM lost $480 million dollars, that is half a billion bucks on this stupid Playbook Tablet. Ouch!

I think there needs to be some management change at RIM, and hopefully they replace the CEO with someone who doesn’t have a big ego, someone more level headed.
