Not Everyone Subscribe to the iCult – This Journalist Doesn’t Like Switching To Mac Pro Laptop

Mac Pro laptop
Although I have a Quad Core Mac OS X Desktop computer to do most of my multi-media task like video editing and music production, I don’t particularly think that Apple /Macs / products are for everyone. First of all Apple products are very expensive for what you get. Basically from a hardware perspective you usually get a lot less powerful hardware than your Windows PC / laptop counter part.

What you are paying for is usually the operating system the Mac OS X. For example, a Mac Pro with an Intel Core i5 Dual Core CPU will cost you $1200, while an Asus laptop with an Intel Core i7 Quad Core CPU with Windows 7 will cost you $800. So you decide if you want to spend the extra $400 or so to be part of the iCult.

Making the switch is also, not easy if you have been using Windows for a long time. For me, it didn’t take too long to get use to the Mac OS X operating system, it was quite easy and intuitive. The best thing I like about the OS X operating system is the stability and generally no viruses. However, the newer 10.6 Snow Leopard and 10.7 Lion OS has gotten quite bloated, fat, not lean and slow downs , memory hogging and spinning rainbow wheel of death does happen and can really tick Mac users off. Sometimes, a Core i5 CPU and 4 GB with Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Lion is not powerful enough you are a heavy multi-tasker.

In addition to being expensive, once you get into the Apple Mac world by buying your first product be prepared to be locked in. You will soon need an Apple ID, and give your credit card information for Apps, proprietary connectors/plugs and much more. Apple products and marketing is like taking you back to high school, they make Apple products look like the in-crowd or clique in your high school and make you feel in-adequate. The marketing then make you want to be part of the in-crowd or clique, it appeals to your insecurities, very powerful and effective emotional marketing.
