No Time To Waste

by Das Brain

It’s 7:15am E.S.T Monday morning and I am up early writing this post. Since last week, when I was terminated from work I have been sending out resumes like crazy. I have been online on most of the job sites looking for positions that I have the qualifications for and of course applying for them. So far, I applied for at least seven positions.

In addition, I called every former colleage and head hunter / recruiter that I knew and sent them my resume so they can assist me in looking for a job. I went through this job hunting process about 6.5 years ago, when I left another job and the principal is the same back then as it is today, I will make looking for a job my job. Which means that from 8am to 5pm I am to be looking for jobs I qualify for and sending out resumes for those jobs Monday to Friday.

Although, I have enough savings stacked away to last me a good 6-8 months, along with severance and Unemployment Insurance, I am not going to sit on my ass and do nothing. The quicker I find another job, the less of my emergency savings I will burn through which in the long run is a good thing.

My own business right now brings in realistically only 2.5% of the salary I was making at the job. This of course is not enough to live on, it helps in paying some bills though. I have been trying to further build up some of my websites to generate more traffic and increase revenue. Some of the work I’ve done over the weekend has helped a bit.

The other thing I did was sold off some of my investments to free up cash to live on. As far as stock and option trading goes, it looks like I have some time on my hands to dedicate more energy to this. I can make a few hundred dollars a week doing this, and every little bit helps right now. Until I can find a job that makes close to what I was making before.

It looks like I am going to hit some rough waters in the months ahead, but my wife and I already know in our hearts that we shall get through this.
