Back To Planes, Trains and Automobiles – The Travelling Engineer

office buildingToday mark the 1st week at my new job. Although working for myself (internet business and trading) was fun over the last 1 year and 1 month it did not necessarily make a lot of money. In the end I realized that making a living trading is very difficult and not everyone can do it. You have very little control over the market and therefore having a consistent stream of income to pay the bills can be difficult. As for the internet business, I realized that this may take some time to build all the websites up to a point where they can generate an income that I can live off of.  I am not going to stop those two activities however, I will continue doing those things on a part-time basis from now on, on my own free time.

Business manThe company that I am working for now is an enterprise software company and they are quite big. Definitely, more organized and structured then the previous scatter brain internet wholesaler company that I worked for, and the pay is not bad either. My base salary at this new company I am working for is 10% higher than my previous company, and the bonus portion is much higher, which puts me close to 100K. Unfortunately, due to privacy concerns I will not mention what company it is.

This blog post is call “Back to planes, trains and automibiles” because I will be travelling quite a bit with this new job, mainly around North America. I don’t mind the travelling at all, as this will help me build up all my points for airlines and hotels.  When I worked at the other enterprise company (not the cheezy internet company) over 3 years ago, I racked up over 500,000 Aeroplan points for 5 years work, which basically paid for many of me and wife’s vacations and I am looking forward to accumulating more points now with this new job.

I will continue to make post and share my thoughts on this blog as usual about money, travel, internet business, technology and miscellaneous stuff, so check back often.
