My Recent Business Trip To Seattle, WA – Space Needle, SkyCity Restaurant, Union Square, Pike Place Public Market, Metropolitan Grill

Seattle, WA sky line in the day

On a recent business trip , I visited one of the my company’s largest customer…Boeing. Yes, that is right the airplane company. Basically, Boeing’s business for the company I currently work for is more than a quarter of a million dollar a year, so of course we have to pay them a visit and treat them well.

While my co-workers and I were in Seattle, we checked out the downtown area, had a nice steak lunch at the Metropolitan Grill Steak House and of course went to explore the Seattle Space Needle and to have dinner at the SkyCity restaurant. Couldn’t go to Seattle without visiting the Space Needle.

Seattle, WA Pike Place Public Area

We walked around for quite a while. We went down Union Street towards the waterfront and somehow ended up in the Pike Place Public Market area. It was a nice area by the water where there were restaurants, small coffee / bakery shops and of course fish markets. Here the seafood chef in you can browse to get all types of fresh fish and raw seafood.

Seattle, WA Union Square area

My colleagues and I also went to do some shopping around the Union Square area. There were the usual department stores, specialty stores, book stores and lot of nice restaurants. Nothing special, but browsing around the downtown shopping are can kill a few hours and is a good way to take in the sights and sounds of the city.

The Metropolitan Grill steakhouse, Seattle, WA

We had lunch at the Metropolitan Grill Steak House which was one of the best steak house in Seattle. The decor and ambience was very nice. The restaurant was very busy and the food was amazing. I do recommend the Metropolitan if you ever you go to Seattle, however you need a reservation though, so call ahead.

The highlight of the day was of course seeing the main attraction of Seattle which was the Space Needle, and having dinner at the SkyCity restaurant. We first went up the elevator, and walked around the outside of the top of the Space Needle, the sight was spectacular. From the top, you can see the whole city of Seattle, as well as out into the ocean. It was a partly cloudy day, but we were able to see some mountains in the distance, including a bit of Mount Ranier. All in all, it was a wonderful experience to be able to see Seattle from above…I’ve always enjoyed going to high buildings of cities I visit to gain this perspective.

Skycity restaurant, Seattle, WA Space Needle

The Space Needle SkyCity restaurant was a great experience. The ambience and decor was nice, and the presentation and taste of the food was fantastic. I appetizer I highly recommend is the Washington Dungeness Crab Cakes (Jicama slaw with apples and roasted corn, herbed rémoulade), the waiter said it is a popular dish and it was well worth trying for those who like crab. Similar to my home city’s (Toronto) CN Tower restaurant, the Seattle Space Needle’s SkyCity restaurant rotates slowly, so as you eat the view of Seattle changes. Everytime I turn to my right while eating / drinking, taking a break from conversation I noticed a different view out the window. It was great…one moment you will see the ocean, another moment you will see mountains in the distance or the buildings of Seattle. It was a truely amazing experience and I do recommend you eat at the SkyCity restaurant if you at the Space Needle, and it is also very important to call and make a reservation first.

I’ve been to Seattle twice before on much shorter business trips and it not get to experience it like I did this time. I’m glad I had the chance to visit Seattle this time to visit Boeing.
