Although Canada has a strong and number one ranked banking system, that doesn’t mean that Canada’s economy is immune to the influence of the U.S financial system meltdown and the United States going down the road towards recession.
With many Canadian businesses either medium or large having most of their business coming from American consumers and companies alike, this economic turmoil that the U.S is going through is currently impacting Canadian business in a big way, and will continue to impact Canadian businesses for the next year or so.
A recent report shows that Canada has the world’s most stable banking system, unlike Canada’s neighbors to the south, the United States currently ranks 40. The U.S has suffered a financial industry, stock market collapse due to de-regulations which allowed their banks to do anything they want, including greedy un-scrupulous lending practices.
A week or so ago my wife was looking for a pair of Puma running shoes online and the price she saw in u.s dollars was $90. At the malls in the Toronto area they were asking about $120 CAD plus 14% tax. So on a recent business trip to Houston, Texas to attend a tradeshow I went to the Galleria mall in Houston, Texas. When I was at the Galleria mall I located a Women’s Footlocker and they had the Puma shoes that she was looking for called the Cell Therid.
The flight to Taipei, Taiwan is not cheap. During the month of March a airline ticket to Taipei, Taiwan will run about $1600 CAD after taxes, give or take a hundred dollars. On this trip to Taiwan, I booked my wife’s plane ticket using my Air Canada Aeroplan points, so basically she flew for almost free. I say almost free because even though I do not have to pay for the airplane ticket to Taiwan, Air Canada makes you pay for the taxes on the ticket, which works out to be like $180 CAD. That of course is better than paying $1600 CAD.
Most web saavy individuals have probably already heard of Google’s free 411 service offering, but if you haven’t heard yet here is some info on Google’s new service.
In light of the current market turmoil that is happening, mainly due to sub-prime credit problems that hit the financial companies which in turn took everything else down with it, I thought I would share this documentary that I found online.
Strangely this hour long documentary was made prior to when the media started really covering this whole sub-prime credit / loan issue. There are a lot of people out there who knew that this was coming.
I found this article on one of the website that I frequent to read about outdoor life. It’s about money, your wealth and how it affects the environment.
Back in the 1980’s when the U.S and Canada signed the Free Trade Agreement the two countries might have agreed to something else other than trade of goods.
Some people believe that the Progressive Conservative government of Canada, sold Canada down the river to the American’s by agreeing to a unified currency called the Amero.
When I was on vacation in southern California, I bought an Acer Aspire 3680-2682 laptop at a Walmart in Colton, California. It was actually on my list of things to buy while I was on vacation, simply because there was no way to get a brand new laptop anywhere in Toronto for less than $460.00 CAD plus 14 percent GST and PST (provincial tax).
It seems like the technologically advanced Japanese have moved passed the stone age technology of the 4 digit pin numbers for gettting cash from ATMs. Now when Japanese consumers want to withdrawal money all they have to do is show their palms or index fingers.
In my review about my Epson Stylus CX5000 multi-function printer I had mentioned about buying Epson compatible Inkjet cartridges from 123inkjets.com for substantially lower price than the genuine Epson inkjet cartridges and that the quality of the printing was close to using the genuine Epson ink. This post is an extension of that compatible inkjet cartridge experience.
